The Crisis of Credit Visualization
I know this is a music blog but hopefully, I can use this as a medium to inform all of you about some other pressing issues. I certainly have some questions about what is happening with the bailout, subprime, bankruptcys of countries, etc etc. These videos are done truly well and simplify the reasons behind the current downfall of America, the worlds largest empire, and how it ties in with the rest of the world. I implore all of you to watch these and truly educate yourself. If not, enjoy Phoenix below.
Phoenix - 1901
1901 is a catchy new song from Phoenix, a french indie pop band. Cool fact: this band was originally formed after singer Laurent left his previous band with former bandmates Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel de Homen who eventually became daft punk.
Meet…. Drake
You’ve heard Asher Roth. You’ve heard Kid Cudi. You know my thoughts on how I believe they will be two of this years biggest new stars. Now meet Drake, the third installment of this new indie/frat rap category.
This Canadian artist is both rapper and singer, and let me say, hes superb at both. Tracks on this mixtape are produced from Kanye, Just Blaze, Peter Bjorn & John. Lil Wayne, Bun B, Santogold, and Lykke Li all add to this allstar lineup. I picked some songs off this free mixtape that showcase his rap flow and singing dynamics. Ignant shit features Wayne on a funky beat, Little Things features Indie singer Lykke Li and is super mellow, and November 18th is a chopped and screwed, Purple drank, codeine inspired banger where Drake slowly raps at the beginning and finishes the song by changing pitch singing right to the end.
Kanye West, DJBenzi Plain Pat - Sky High Mixtape
I admittedly posted this on my blogspot but think its worth a listen for all you newbies. Kanye West worked on this with DJ Benzi and Plain Pat and released it quietly on the net last month. They worked with some upcoming producer teams like A-Trak and Cooking Soul and really created a totally new album. The whole thing is definately worth a listen and a quick google search will pull up the mixtape that you can download for free. Here are my two favorite songs from it.
In case you dont know or have heard just a blurb about it, Twitter is essentially permanent Facebook status updates. Now youre probably saying, who the hell cares or why wouly anyone care if ie: “Jonathan is going to the 90″?
Well, Twitter is used for instant news updates, unique new sites on the web, or cool promotions. When the USAirways flight crashed two weeks ago, someone on the flight took photos and uploaded immediately using Twitter. That broke the story even before CNN or Fox. When Lance Armstrongs bike was stolen earlier this week, he posted on Twitter to notify the public of its disappearance. Many companies like Starbucks and Whole Foods will offer free incentives for their followers, and tons of artists like Kanye regularly update.
How many of you are early adapters and already on Twitter? PS - my user name there is djShrifty so feel free to add me if you’d like
The Fashion - Take the Money and Run
This group hails from Copenhagen (so Seanny P and Seth keep your ears open). This song has an amazing beat and this group is filled with energy. More radio friendly than Ratatat but similar to MGMT or the Rapture. This track was sent to me by Buddha Pink so big ups for this. Highly recommended listen.
Lil Wayne - February 18th
Yeah yeah. This song is called “February 18th” and I should have posted then seeing as now its two days later. Whatever the case, its a brand new, short Weezy jam with some sick spacey electric sounds.
Kid Cudi - In the Stars
Like I have been saying, Kid Cudi will inevitably be one of the biggest rappers of 2009/2010. His video for Day N Nite just dropped, hes only Kanye’s protege, yada yada yada. Anyways, this song is a bit more pop like than his usual indie rap.Did I mention Wale is featured on the track too?
T.I - Popped Off
T.I keeps putting bangers out. This is a more laid back approach and this beat has some dope horns to fuel the bassline.
Chromeo and Yuksek - So Down
Fuck. Chromeo has been killing it lately. Their tracks are infectious. Like I said about my last Chromeo post, I dare you not to dance.
